Personal Study Tip:
I love reading the scriptures! But there have been many times in my life when I have let scripture reading become more of a chore or daily checklist item. Like brushing your teeth, scripture reading can become something you do repetatively with very little thought.
I love the account we read this week of Ezra reading the word of God to the people. It had been many, many years since they had heard the word of God and they, “Wept, when they heard the words of the law.” (Nehemiah 8: 9). Can you imagine feeling that kind of joy from reading the scriptures?
It can be so easy to take for granted the blessing the scriptures are in our life. This week while you are studying, pause and take just five minutes and write a list of all the reasons you love the scriptures. How have they been a blessing in your life? When is a time the scriptures brought you peace or answers? What scripture do you often turn to during hard times? How would your life be different if you didn’t have the scriptures in it?
Taking time frequently to remind yourself of the WHY you read your scriptures can bring so much joy and fulfillment in your regular efforts.
