Last year in General Conference, Elder Stevenson encouraged us to find a way to incorporate the Book of Mormon into our Easter traditions and celebrations. These daily devotional cards can help you find simple ways to study the story of Christ visiting ancient America the week leading up to Easter.
The Greatest Story Ever Told
I was so inspired by Elder Stevenson’s talk last year, “The Greatest Easter Story Ever Told”, and his call, along with the First Presidency, to give more thought to creating a meaningful and reverent experience each Easter as we celebrate Christ’s atonement.
The question he posed was,
“How do we model the teaching and celebration of the
Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Easter story, with the same balance, fulness,
and rich religious tradition of the birth of Jesus Christ, the Christmas story?”
I don’t know about you, but I got kind of excited about this question. Christmas is one of my favorite times of year and I am all in for having another holiday like Christmas!
Specifically, Elder Stevenson talked about his “heavenly epiphany” to include the account of Jesus Christ appearing to ancient America.
He said,
“In addition to the important verses about Easter in the New
Testament, we as Latter-day Saints are endowed with a most remarkable Easter
gift! A gift of unique witness, another testament of the Easter miracle that
contains perhaps the most magnificent Easter scriptures in all of Christianity.
I am referring of course to the Book of Mormon and, more specifically, to the
account of Jesus Christ appearing to inhabitants in the New World in His
resurrected glory.”
His words have had a great impact on my heart over this last year. When I saw the Church put out a Easter Study Plan that included ideas for studying the New Testament and Book of Mormon I knew I had to create a printable for my family to help us study the Book of Mormon account this Easter.
In the past we have done a study of Holy Week, and although we will do a family home evening lesson and Sunday video on it, I want to primarily study the Book of Mormon account this year of the resurrected Christ.
I hope you and your family will enjoy using these devotional cards to study, “the greatest Easter story ever told.”
