General Conference Talks for Kids: President Nelson- Rejoice in the Gift of Priesthood Keys

As a teenager there was one day I will never forget that I locked my car keys inside my car two times that day. Two times!

The little car door clicker on my keys didn’t work so I had gotten in the habit of locking my car with the door lock button before I shut the door. It was a particularly busy day working on a fundraiser and I kept jumping out with all the things I needed and forgot my keys on the seat before locking the door and shutting it.

I still remember how very frustrated, embarassed, and hopeless I felt. The first time I was in the middle of a random neighborhood with no phone wondering how I was going to get into my car.

I could see the keys right there, but I couldn’t access them and boy did I wish there was some other way to unlock my car.

I learned that day how important keys are and how frustrating and hopeless it feels to not be able to unlock something so important.

I love President Nelson’s talk this last General Conference about priesthood keys. I can’t even imagine what it would have been like before the priesthood keys were restored to Joseph Smith in the Kirtland Temple. So many men and women who were unable to unlock the power and blessings that come from these keys. President Nelson said:

“Consider how your life would be different if priesthood keys had not been restored to the earth. Without priesthood keys, you could not be endowed with the power of God. Without priesthood keys, the Church could serve only as a significant teaching and humanitarian organization but not much more. Without priesthood keys, none of us would have access to essential ordinances and covenants that bind us to our loved ones eternally and allow us eventually to live with God.”
